Aviateca the national airline of Guatemala was founded in 1945. Headquartered in Guatemala City, Guatemala with its main hub being La Aurura International Airport in Guatemala City.
Today Aviateca holding its own IATA code is part of Grupo Taca and makes up one of 5 airlines flying under the TACA Airlines colors.
The airlines making up TACA Airlines, are, Aviateca of Guatemala, Lacsa of Costa Rica, Islena Airlines of Honduras, NICA of Nicaragua and TACA Peru of Peru. In October 2009 TACA and Avianca announced the merger of their 2 airlines yet flying under their respected names.
